Actor Santhanam recently confirmed that he will be reuniting with Silambarasan for the latter’s film with Ramkumar Balakrishnan, tentatively titled STR 49.
Speaking to Vikatan, Santhanam confirmed his casting and also spoke about his relationship with Silambarasan. “One day, Simbu called me and said, ‘I’m doing a film, and you should be a part of it.’ It is always a ‘yes’ if he asks me to be a part of a film. In terms of respect, I hold him so high that I can never say no to him. I will never say ‘no’ to Simbu because I owe him a lot. When he began production for STR 49, I was also busy with the production of my next film. But because Simbu asked, I apologised to the producer of my film and have joined the sets of Simbu’s film.”
Some popular films in which Santhanam and Silambarasan have starred together are Osthe, Vaalu, Vaanam, Manmadhan and Vallavan.
STR 49 is backed by Aakash Bhaskaran of Dawn Pictures, who is currently behind films like Dhanush’s Idly Kadai and Sivakarthikeyan’s Parasakthi. Ramkumar Balakrishnan made his directorial debut with Harish Kalyan-MS Bhaskar’s Parking. Sai Abhayankkar has been roped in as the music composer for the film. More details about the film’s extended cast, crew and plot are yet to be disclosed.
Meanwhile, Santhanam is currently gearing up for the release of DD Next Level, which is scheduled to hit theatres on May 16. On the other hand, Silambarasan is also awaiting the release of Mani Ratnam-Kamal Haasan’s Thug Life. Apart from STR 49, he also has an upcoming film with director Ashwath Marimuthu and another film under the direction of Desingh Periyasamy.
