On Sunday, three days after the release of Suriya's Kanguva, actor Jyotika, wife of Suriya, took to her official Instagram handle to pen a review of the film. She addressed the film's positives and negatives, as well as the negativity surrounding the film.

Starting the note with a statement that she pens the review as a cinema lover and not Suriya's wife, Jyotike wrote, "Kanguva—a spectacle in cinema. So proud of you, Suriya, for the actor you are and how you dare to dream to take cinema forward. Definitely the first half hour doesn’t work, and the sound is jarring! Flaws are a part of most Indian films, so that’s only fair, especially in this kind of film wherein one experiment largely! And it’s just the first half hour out of the whole three hours. But to be true, it’s an absolute cinematic experience! Camera work and execution have never been seen before in Tamizh cinema." (sic)

Jyotika further expressed her surprise at the negative reviews from the media and certain groups, noting that similar criticism was not directed at other big-budget films with outdated storylines, where women are stalked, double-entendre dialogues are used, and over-the-top action sequences dominate. She also pointed out that the positives of Kanguva seemed to have been overlooked in the reviews, highlighting the impactful women-led action sequence in the second half and the young boy’s love story and betrayal as some of the film’s strengths.

Continuing, she questioned whether it was even worth reading, listening to, or believing such reviews, given the situation. She expressed her disappointment over the level of negativity directed towards Kanguva on its release day, even before the first show had concluded, suggesting that it felt like orchestrated propaganda by certain groups. She argued that the film deserved appreciation for its concept and the team's efforts in creating a 3D experience and delivering such a visually spectacular work. She concluded by appreciating the film's team and asking them to continue being encouraged. "Be proud, Team Kanguva, as the ones commenting negatively are doing just that and nothing else to their credit to uplift cinema!"

Helmed by Siva, Kanguva also stars Disha Patani, Jagapathi Babu, Yogi Babu, Redin Kingsley, Kovai Sarala, Anandaraj, G Marimuthu, Ravi Raghavendra, KS Ravikumar, Ravi Raghavendra, BS Avinash, and Deepa Venkat, among others. The film marks the Tamil debut of Disha Patani and Bobby Deol.

The two-part film traverses across multiple time periods. Produced by Studio Green and UV Creations, Kanguva features cinematography by Vetri Palanisamy, editing by the late Nishadh Yusuf, and art direction by the late Milan Fernandez. Dialogues for the film have been written by Madhan Karky.
