TN government sends show cause notice to TFPC

A show-cause notice has been sent to the office bearers of the Tamil Film Producers Council (Vishal, Kathiresan, SS Durairaj and SR Prabhu) from the principal secretary, commercial tax and registration department, seeking a detailed explanation for alleged mismanagement of the council’s funds, under sec 34-A of the Tamil Nadu Societies Registration Act, 1975.

JSK Sathish Kumar, one of the producers dissenting against TFPC, has said in a press release that the notice was in response to the complaint raised by them. "We complained to the officials about the various council irregularities like mishandling and misuse of funds, non-conduct of the annual general body meet, non-maintenance of council records. A notice has hence been individually sent to the four office bearers, demanding an immediate response. If there is no response, they will be arrested.” he said.

The principal office bearers of the producers' council were unavailable for comment.

The producers' council has lately been in the centre of several controversies,  with a few dissenting producers alleging authoritarian decision making by Vishal, irregularities in the council’s functioning, financial inconsistencies, and several other aberrations. The dispute between the two factions intensified in December last year when the council office was locked and sealed by the dissenting producers, and Vishal was arrested by the police. The Madras High Court, while acquiting Vishal and ordering the office premises to be opened, appointed Partheipan as a member of the executive board.
