William Golding's novel Lord Of The Flies has been brought to the screen a few times already, and the latest version is that of Adolescence writer Jack Thorne. The four-part series is all set to premiere on Netflix on May 4. Along with the premiere date announcement, the streamer also unveiled a few first-look images.

William Golding's classic 1954 novel centres on a group of young male boarding school students who end up stranded on an island and devolve into savages. Each of the four episodes is dedicated to one main quartet, namely, Ralph (Winston Sawyers), Jack (Lox Pratt), Piggy (David McKenna) and Simon (Ike Talbut).

The series will also star Thomas Connor as Roger; Noah and Cassius Flemming as twins Sam and Eric; Cornelius Brandreth as Maurice; and Tom Page-Turner as Bill.

Lord of the Flies is helmed by Marc Munden, known for Mark of Cain and National Treasure. He collaborates with Academy Award winner Hans Zimmer, Bleeding Fingers Music's Kara Talve and Cristobal Tapia de Veer. The series was filmed in the UK and Malaysia on location.

Thorne, who is the president of the Writers' Guild of Great Britain, recently served as a writer on Stephen Graham's Adolescence. He has also penned the theatre shows Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, Enola Holmes and His Dark Materials.

Lord of the Flies is produced by Eleven and One Shoe Films, backed by Sony Pictures Television, BBC iPlayer, BBC One and Stan. It is commissioned by Lindsay Salt, the director of BBC Drama. Executive producers are Eleven's Joel Wilson and Jamie Campbell; One Shoe Films' Jack Thorne; BBC's Nawfal Faizullah; Stan's Cailah Scobie; and Marc Munden.
