It has been a year since the release of the critically acclaimed show Adolescence on Netflix. On the special occasion, actor Owen Cooper took to social media to pen a note of gratitude to the audience for the reception of the series.

Sharing a picture with his co-stars and the series' crew, the actor wrote, "1 year ago today Adolescence dropped. The day my life changed forever." The series marked Cooper's first-ever professional acting role. However, his performance in the show belies his lack of experience, as his character puts some of the other characters and the audience on a knife edge. The performance earned Owen Cooper appreciation from even some of the biggest names in Hollywood, such as Jake Gyllenhaal and Leonardo DiCaprio.

Further, Cooper became the youngest-ever male actor to win a Golden Globe award and a Primetime Emmy Award for his performance in the show in the respective categories.

However, working on the show meant a lot more than awards for Cooper.

"I shared memories with my family that I’ll remember forever. Accepted awards that I never thought I could possibly achieve. Met people that I’ve watched and adored since I was a little kid. I travelled the world with my family and loved every minute of it so thank you all so much," the actor wrote.

The show stars him as Jamie Miller, a problematic teenager who kills his classmate. While the teenager initially denies the accusation, his involvement behind the crime becomes clear and obvious when law enforcement officials show him a video clip.

One of the show's most memorable scenes involves Cooper's character confronting a psychologist as he shares his dangerous perspectives about women to the mental health expert. Besides its one-shot filmmaking technique, the series earned much appreciation for its unique take on the manosphere culture and the fresh angle it brought to the process of psychotherapy.
