Earlier this Friday, Netflix India announced a new program where it welcomes original ideas from writers across the country, providing them with opportunities to develop these for series for the streamer. Known as the Netflix NextGen India Writers' Program, it requires applicants to meet the streamer's screenwriting experience criteria. "Calling all writers, showrunners, storytellers... We’ve officially launched Netflix NextGen India Writers' Program. This is an opportunity for all early career writers with a maximum of 3 years of experience in screenwriting to bring your original ideas to life and develop them directly for Netflix. Your story deserves the biggest stage," the streamer wrote in an announcement post.

Applications are now open and will remain so until September 01, Tuesday. With the initiative, Netflix plans to not just discover the next generation of writers from India but also train them. The streamer will invite select writers to participate in a workshop, described as the 'simulated writers' room,' so that they can develop web series for them.

The week-long workshop will allow the selected candidates to learn from professionals in the industry how to pitch and break a story, as well as collaborating with their fellow participants. There will also be online sessions with their mentors and peers once every week where the participants will get to create detailed pitches for their original ideas. These sessions will span six weeks.

Then, they will get to pitch their series ideas to the content team of Netflix India, providing them with an opportunity to develop their ideas for the streamer.

The instructor who will be part of the program is screenwriter Barbara Nance, known for her work in television. Meanwhile, Netflix is set to announce the selected applications on December 15, Tuesday, with an eye on starting the workshop in February next year. You can learn more about the program, including how to apply, from the streamer's official website.
