On Friday, ZEE5 announced the streaming date for The Kerala Story 2: Goes Beyond, the Vipul Amrutlal Shah production which had a theatrical release in February. The Kerala Story 2 will arrive on the streaming platform on May 8, after a theatrical window of 10 weeks.
Directed by Kamakhya Narayan Singh, The Kerala Story 2 stars Aishwarya Ojha, Ulka Gupta, and Aditi Bhatia in lead roles. The film tells the story of three young Hindu women who find themselves as the victim of religious indoctrination after they pursue relationships with a Muslim man.
Earlier, around the time of its release, the film landed in controversy after Kerala High Court put a temporary stay on the film’s release. The film eventually released with a small delay on Friday, after getting sanctioned from the DB bench that ruled in its favour.
However, the film could not replicate the success of its predecessor The Kerala Story (2022), which was a massive box office hit. According to a report from Sacnilk, The Kerala Story 2 collected Rs 62 crore (gross) at domestic box office.
In our review for the film, we noted, “The film is not interested in the dramatics of storytelling — which explains its decision to begin with morbid deaths of its principal figures. You will be hard pressed to see one decent Muslim figure. The broad strokes in the film’s depiction of their community are laughable and scary at once.”
