A few days ago, amidst the Kerala Story 2 certification controversy, Sudipto Sen, who directed The Kerala Story, sparked a controversy with his remarks about not willing to make a film based on Whatsapp Forwards. Although the filmmaker later attempted to clarify his remarks, now producer Vipul Amrutlal Shah has hit back at the director for his remarks, also sharing more details about why Sudipto was not on board for the sequel.
In an interview with India Today, Vipul Amrutlal Shah said, “I would like to put it to rest. He had written a script about Kerala Story 2, which was absolute trash. And I did not want to make that film, and that is why I went ahead with Kamakhya Narayan Singh for the sequel.”
The producer also rejected validity of Sudipto’s opinion, stating that he wasn’t fully part of the research process to begin with. He added, “He doesn’t even know what research we have done. So, how can he make those comments? I don’t usually comment but when somebody attacks my film, that is when I’m compelled to react. The film was released, and I know of these statements that he’s made, they’re baseless. That’s all I can say.”
Meanwhile, The Kerala Story 2 has been maintaining steady momentum at the box office. After registering decent collections on the first weekend, the film witnessed a drop in Monday collections, before picking up again on Tuesday. As of on Wednesday at 3pm, the film had garnered over Rs 17 crores (nett) at domestic box office.
