Unni Mukundan Films (UMF) on Wednesday issued an official note extending its best wishes to Cubes Entertainment for their upcoming venture Kattalan, while also clarifying that actor Unni Mukundan has no involvement in the project or any connected “universe”. The statement comes amid ongoing speculation surrounding the future of the Marco franchise and Unni Mukundan’s association with projects backed by Cubes Entertainment.

In the note shared on social media, UMF congratulated the production house on its “second venture” and reflected on their collaboration in Marco, which UMF had co-produced. “We had the privilege of being a part of their maiden venture, Marco, which we co-produced, and it has been a journey we are proud of. We wish the entire team the very best and many more milestones in the days ahead,” the statement read.

However, the production banner also firmly addressed rumours linking Unni to Kattalan or any future extension of the Marco universe. “We would like to kindly clarify that Unni Mukundan is not a part of this project or any universe,” the note stated, further requesting fans and the public to refrain from raising further questions regarding any association with the film.

The clarification arrives just a day ahead of the theatrical release of Antony Varghese Pepe’s Kattalan, produced by Shareef Muhammed under the Cubes Entertainment banner. The action thriller, directed by debutant Paul George, revolves around the world of ivory smuggling and recently drew attention after the makers revealed that it contains three post-credits scenes.

The latest statement also adds another chapter to the evolving developments surrounding Marco. Earlier in June 2025, Unni had confirmed that he had dropped plans for Marco 2, citing the “too much negativity” surrounding the ultra-violent action thriller despite its major commercial success.

Subsequently, Cubes Entertainment had hinted that the Marco franchise could continue in some form, asserting that the company exclusively owns all rights to the property. Later, reports also emerged about a new project titled Lord Marco, though Unni was said to have no involvement in it.

Released in 2024 and directed by Haneef Adeni, Marco emerged as a box-office blockbuster despite criticism over its extreme violence, eventually becoming the highest-grossing A-rated Malayalam film to date.
