Actor Mohanlal and director Jeethu Joseph’s Drishyam 3 has continued its strong theatrical run over the opening weekend, grossing Rs 117.17 crore worldwide within just three days of release. According to the latest reported figures (Sacnilk), the film has earned Rs 47.17 crore gross in India and Rs 70 crore from overseas markets, while its India net collection currently stands at Rs 40.60 crore.
The film opened with Rs 18.37 crore gross on Day 1, aided by 5,506 shows and an occupancy rate of 51.3%. However, collections saw a noticeable drop on Day 2, with the film earning Rs 12.81 crore gross and occupancy dipping to 44.5%. The decline was partially offset on Day 3, as the Saturday collections rose to Rs 16 crore gross, with occupancy climbing back to 50.2% across 5,185 shows.
The overseas performance continues to be one of the film’s biggest strengths, contributing nearly 60% of the worldwide gross so far. This once again underlines Mohanlal’s consistent pull in international markets, especially in regions with a strong Malayalam-speaking diaspora.
Released on May 21, the third instalment in the hugely popular Drishyam franchise opened to mostly positive reviews from audiences and critics alike. While some viewers have pointed out that the film does not entirely recreate the novelty and tension of the earlier parts, the general audience reception — particularly among Mohanlal fans — has remained strong.
Drishyam 3 picks up the story from where it left off in the second chapter. It explores Georgekutty's (Mohanlal) emotional state following the tragic passing of Varun at the hands of his family and the subsequent cover-up of the murder. The film also stars Meena, Ansiba Hassan, Esther Anil, Siddique, Murali Gopy, and Asha Sharath, among others.
An excerpt from CE's review of Drishyam 3 reads, "Drishyam 3 brings back some familiar characters, who are unfortunately reduced to tropes that serve some purpose, but it makes you think if it was worth it. Jeethu, however, manages to make up by giving a fresh spin to Siddique's character, Prabhakar."
