Malayalam cinema is known for its bonhomie between stars, irrespective of gender. Except for rare instances, you do not hear stories of ego battles between stars in Malayalam cinema dominating headlines. Take Nimisha Sajayan and Rajisha Vijayan, for example.
Days after the release of Rajisha's film Masthishka Maranam, directed by Krishand, Nimisha took to social media to shower the film with effusive praise. As reported earlier, the film follows a grieving father who takes to a black market video game to cope with the loss of his daughter in a futuristic version of Kochi. In the process of doing so, he accidentally comes across a dark secret concerning a superstar (Rajisha).
The film features Rajisha playing two different avatars: the superstar who goes by the name Shalini and her in-game version, Frida Soman. Referring to the actor's transition between the roles, Nimisha wrote, "Loved Frida Soman.. what a performance! You were pure fire. There's something about you onscreen that's just magical. The way you transform from Frida to Shalini is incredible."
Nimisha also opined that the film would not have had the same impact if not for Rajisha Vijayan's performance in it. "Frida is definitely gonna be my favourite! I love you," Nimisha added.
In response, Rajisha shared Nimisha's positive Masthishka Maranam review on her Instagram stories and simply wrote "Nimmy".
It is worth noting that Rajisha and Nimisha shared screen space in the 2019 film Stand Up, directed by Vidhu Vincent. At the time, we at CE appreciated Rajisha's performance in the 2019 film, calling it "brave" and the actor's best performance until then.
With Masthishka Maranam's release, however, the opinion has changed, at least with regard to many audiences and reviewers.
