Director Kiran Das and writer Shahi Kabir's film Unmadham, starring Kunchacko Boban in the lead role, hit theatres on Friday. The film opened to mostly mixed reviews from critics. On release day, it earned a net collection of 70 lakh from theatres, according to data from Sacnilk. The box office tracker also reveals that the film has minted a net collection of 17 lakh from theatres so far this Saturday. In gross terms, the overall Unmadham box office collection stands at 1.01 crore so far, reports the tracker.
The film has brought writer Shahi Kabir back together with Kunchacko Boban after collaborations on films such as Nayattu (2021) and Officer on Duty (2025), where too the actor plays police officers.
The film tells the story of a cop (Kunchacko) with a burdensome past who takes on a unresolved case. When the officer looks deeper into the case, hidden secrets start surfacing, making him face uncomfortable truths which not only challenge his personal beliefs but also have a major influence on his life. "Every buried truth has a way of finding its voice," reads the tagline for the film.
The cast also includes Lijomol Jose, Shyna Radhakrishnan, Kiran Peethambaran, and Kottayam Nazeer, among others. It marks the first collaboration between Kunchacko Boban and Lijomol Jose in a film.
On the technical front, the film has composer Mujeeb Majeed, cinematographer Arjun Sethu, editors Kiran Das and Jithin John, and production designer Dileep Nath.
In our review, Vignesh Madhu wrote, "Kiran Das makes a confident debut as a filmmaker, especially in the way he keeps the tension simmering through the first half, extracts strong performances, and executes some bizarre dream sequences that play out like a supernatural thriller, even if they tend to overstay their welcome."
