It has been a week since the release of Pallichattambi, directed by Dijo Jose Antony and starring Tovino Thomas in the lead role. After five days of steady box office collections for the film, Monday saw a big reduction in its gross collection.

According to the tracker Sacnilk, Pallichattambi's collection dropped from 1.60 crore on Sunday to 0.59 crore on Monday. Overall, the film has earned a gross collection of 10.61 crore from theatres in India, the tracker reports. The number of shows for the film came down from 979 on Sunday to 792 on Monday. That said, it is worth noting that there has been a reduction in the number of shows for the other recent Malayalam releases over the last few days: Vaazha 2 and Bharathanatyam 2 Mohiniyattam.

The reduction in the show count of these films is notable, especially considering the fact that there has not been any new releases in Malayalam cinema in the last two days.

Dijo Jose Antony: Don’t expect a strong political statement in Pallichattambi

Since there are no big Malayalam releases scheduled until May 01, these films and Oru Durooha Saahacharyathil have some more days to collect more money at the box office.

Kayadu Lohar and Vijayaraghavan also feature in key roles in the film, alongside Tovino. It has a brief appearance from Prithviraj Sukumaran too.

Set primarily in the 1950s, with the Communist government ruling in Kerala, the film's story revolves around a hooligan who is enlisted by a church amidst the liberation struggle as it finds the Communist Party a threat to their religion.

In our review, Vignesh Madu wrote, "Pallichattambi had all the ingredients to be a standout entry in Tovino’s filmography. With a sharper focus, more layered storytelling, and restraint in its scale-driven approach, it could have been a more compelling socio-political drama. Instead, it remains a film of unrealised potential, weighed down by its own ambitions."
