Remember the red Hero Honda Splendour from director Fazil's 1997 film Aniyathipraavu, starring Kunchacko Boban and Shalini as lovers? It is one of the many Aniyathipraavu references in Kunchacko's upcoming film Oru Durooha Saahacharyathil, directed by Ratheesh Balakrishnan Poduval.
In a recent conversation with The Cue, the actor said that Sharanya's character is named Mini in the film, the same name as Shalini's character from the 1997 film, and that his character in it is Sethu. Kunchacko Boban also suggested that his character's other name in Oru Durooha Saahacharyathil is Sudhi, teasing that Sethu is part of an identity that he keeps hidden in the film. Notably, Sudhi is the actor's character name in Aniyathipraavu.
Interestingly, Kunchacko Boban admitted that he himself did not recognise the Aniyathipraavu references in the film at the time of its production.
This revelation comes as a surprise, especially considering the fact that the actor recently purchased the Splendour bike from the 1997 film. "You might understand the references only in second or third viewing," the actor said. He added that the film explores many entertaining and serious topics buried under its plot that could be decoded the more the audience watches it.
Set in Wayanad, the film also stars Dileesh Pothen, Sajin Gopu, Chidambaram, Jaffer Idukki, Rajesh Madhavan, and Sudheesh, among others. Produced by Listin Stephen of Magic Frames and Kunchacko Boban himself under Udaya Pictures, it is scheduled to hit theatres on April 15, coinciding with Vishu. Also slated to release on the same date is Pallichattambi, directed by Dijo Jose Anthony and starring Tovino Thomas, Kayadu Lohar, and Vijayaraghavan, among others.
