Customs officials on Tuesday seized two cars, including a Land Rover Defender registered in the name of actor-producer Dulquer Salmaan, as part of their ongoing investigation into luxury vehicles brought into India through Bhutan. According to reports, officials have stated that the Lucky Baskhar actor will be asked to produce the necessary documents relating to the cars.
The seizures are linked to Operation Numkhor, a nationwide drive aimed at exposing rackets that exploit registration exemptions to import high-end vehicles without paying duties. The investigation, led by the Kerala and Lakshadweep Customs Commissionerate, has included searches at nearly 30 locations across the state. As part of the operation, officials inspected the homes of Dulquer in Panampilly Nagar, Prithviraj Sukumaran in Thevara and Mammootty in Elamkulam.
Dulquer is currently in the spotlight following the record-breaking success of Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra, the highest-grossing Malayalam film of all time, which he produced under his Wayfarer Films banner and also featured in a cameo role.
Further action in the case will depend on the verification of the seized cars’ documents, officials said.
