Payal Kapadia’s Cannes Grand Prix winning film All We Imagine As Light has hit theatres in Argentina in the vernacular. Earlier today, broadcasting and media production company Luxbox Films made the announcement with an official Argentinian poster for the film. The film stars Kani Kusruti, Divya Prabha, Chhaya Kasam, and Hridhu Haroon. It tells the story of two nurses from Kerala navigating life in Mumbai. One of them is in love with a boy from another religion, whereas the other is longing for the return of her husband from the Middle East. The film offers a nuanced and complex exploration of female agency and independence. Director Payal had said that the film is her love letter to the City of Mumbai, her hometown.
The film earned rave reviews even before its original release last year. By the time the Payal Kapadia directorial hit the screens in Kerala, it had won the award that is regarded as the second biggest at the Cannes Film Festival. The most coveted Cannes recognition is the Palme d'Or, and the Grand Prix is considered the runner-up to it. The film even met with some controversies, including one regarding whether it should be considered an Indian production and another concerning intimate scenes.
