The trailer for the 4K restoration of the 2001 Malayalam blockbuster Ravanaprabhu was unveiled on Wednesday, sparking excitement among the Mohanlal fans eager to relive the film’s mass action moments and fiery monologues on the big screen. The restored version, featuring Dolby Atmos sound, is set to hit theatres on October 10.
Written and directed by Ranjith in his directorial debut, Ravanaprabhu was made as a sequel to IV Sasi’s 1993 classic Devasuram, for which Ranjith had also penned the script. The film stars Mohanlal in dual roles as Mangalassery Neelakandan and his son MN Karthikeyan, with the story revolving around generational conflict, revenge and the reclaiming of family honour.
A blend of action, drama, romance and feudal rivalry, Ravanaprabhu became the highest-grossing Malayalam film of 2001 and won the Kerala State Film Award for Best Film with Popular Appeal and Aesthetic Value. The ensemble cast includes Vasundhara Das, Napoleon, Revathi, Innocent, Vijayaraghavan and Siddique.
The rerelease follows the successful restorations of other Mohanlal hits such as Spadikam, Devadoothan, Manichithrathazhu and Chotta Mumbai. The veteran actor was recently honoured with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award 2023 at the 71st National Film Awards.
