Marco actor Unni Mukundan has responded to allegations of physical assault and death threats levelled by Vipin Kumar, a person who claims to have managed his professional affairs, dismissing them as “childish” and baseless. In an interview with Manorama Online, Unni insisted that he did not assault Vipin, claiming instead that he confronted him over defamatory statements. “There were efforts from Vipin’s side to damage my reputation,” Unni said. “It’s difficult to describe the shock and sadness that come from someone you’ve trusted for years suddenly turning against you.”
Unni explained that the confrontation took place in the basement parking of Vipin’s flat, a location covered by CCTV cameras and witnessed by their mutual friend Vishnu Unnithan. He acknowledged breaking Vipin’s sunglasses, which he said he removed because Vipin refused to speak openly. However, he denied any physical violence. “I did not physically assault him,” Unni stated, adding that Vipin apologised in front of Vishnu Unnithan.
Unni claimed the dispute arose when Vipin failed to provide a satisfactory explanation for spreading false stories about him. “Earlier, he had admitted fault to Meppadiyan director Vishnu Mohan and apologised. But now he stood before me without remorse,” Unni said. Addressing rumours that he sought to harm the prospects of the recently released film Narivetta, starring Tovino Thomas, Unni dismissed the claims as false and insisted that he maintains a strong friendship with Tovino. “Tovino was one of the first people to celebrate the success of Marco with me. These baseless stories cannot damage our friendship,” he said. Unni also alleged that Vipin had a history of problematic behaviour within the film industry and that a prominent female actor had lodged an ICC complaint against him. He claimed Vipin often exaggerated his professional ties and had tried to take full credit for promotional work during Marco’s release.
Clarifying his professional relationships, Unni said he does not have a personal manager, relying instead on direct contacts and public relations officers. “Vipin is just one of the many PROs who claim to work for various films, including mine,” he said. “I urge viewers to verify the authenticity of news before forming an opinion.” Unni concluded that Vipin’s allegations were an attempt to cover up his own mistakes.
Meanwhile, Kakkanad Infopark Police in Kochi have registered a case based on Vipin’s complaint and have launched an investigation into the alleged incident against Unni.
