Tharun Moorthy: Hindi remake of Thudarum with Ajay Devgn is in discussions
Filmmaker Tharun Moorthy backed up the commercial and critical success of Operation Java (2021) and Saudi Vellakka (2022), respectively, with this year's Thudarum, starring Mohanlal and Prakash Varma in the lead roles. The film grossed over 235 crore from theatres worldwide, according to data from Sacnilk, and played a part in Tharun getting another film with Mohanlal. Meanwhile, Tharun revealed in a recent conversation with India Today that he has received enquiries from Telugu and Hindi cinema industries for Thudarum remakes. However, he also expressed reservations to do those projects due to the time constraints with "back-to-back commitments" that he has at the moment. That said, he teased the prospect of a Hindi remake of Thudarum featuring Ajay Devgn in the lead, in place of Mohanlal's role in the Malayalam original.
Addressing a question about whom he would like to cast in the Hindi version, the filmmaker said that he would "take plenty of effort for Ajay Devgn" because of the latter's stunt background. Ajay's father, the late Veeru Devgan, is also a popular action choreographer. For the uninitiated, Thudarum stars Mohanlal as a former stuntman-turned-family man, operating a car-for-hire service business.
Tharun Moorthy also said that discussions are underway to confirm the Thudarum Hindi remake, although they are yet to finalise the project.
Meanwhile, Tharun Moorthy's upcoming films include Torpedo, starring Fahadh Faasil, Arjun Das, Ganapathi, and Naslen. Backed by Ashiq Usman Productions, Torpedo brings Tharun back together with his Thudarum star Binu Pappu, who serves as a screenwriter in the film. The makers announced the project in May this year, but they are yet to reveal further details about it, including production details. However, Arjun Das recently suggested that he has started shooting for Torpedo with a social media post.
Besides Torpedo, Tharun also has a film with Mohanlal in the pipeline. Ashiq Usman Productions, who backs the film, announced it on Monday.
