Following the massive success of Thudarum, Mohanlal and director Tharun Moorthy are reuniting for a new film to be produced by Ashiq Usman Productions. The project was officially announced on Monday, with the production house sharing a photo of Mohanlal with the core team. It is scripted by Ratheesh Ravi, who earlier wrote films such as Pullikkaran Staraa, Ishq and Adi. Shaji Kumar, who has worked with Mohanlal on films like Naran, Pulimurugan and Thudarum, has been signed as the cinematographer.
Earlier this year, in July, Ashiq Usman Productions had announced another Mohanlal film with Ratheesh Ravi as the writer and debutant Austin Dan Thomas as the director. The project, tentatively titled L 365, was supposed to feature Mohanlal in a police character after a long while. However, it is now reliably learnt that the project has been completely dropped. Sources close to the team also say the new film is again a cop story, but different from the one announced earlier.
Interestingly, Mohanlal and Tharun were planning to reunite for another film to be backed by Thudarum producer M Renjith. The project was announced in October during Thudarum's success celebration event, but it is not yet known which of these will go on floors first.
Tharun, meanwhile, has two more films in his lineup: Torpedo and Operation Cambodia. While Torpedo is a multistarrer with Fahadh Faasil, Naslen, Arjun Das and Ganapathi, Operation Cambodia, to be headlined by Prithviraj Sukumaran, is the sequel to the director's 2021 film, Operation Java.
