Fahadh Faasil has opened up about the kind of films he wishes to do with three of Malayalam cinema’s most celebrated veteran directors. Speaking to film critic Maneesh Narayanan for Cue Studio ahead of the release of Odum Kuthira Chaadum Kuthira (OKCK), the actor said he has personally conveyed these wishes to Sathyan Anthikad, Priyadarshan and Blessy. “With Sathyan ettan, I hope to do a film like T P Balagopalan MA. With Priyan ettan, I wish to do something along the lines of Cheppu. And with Blessy sir, I would love to be part of a film like Thanmathra,” Fahadh noted.
While he has already collaborated with Sathyan on films like Oru Indian Pranayakadha and Njan Prakashan, Fahadh is yet to work with Priyadarshan and Blessy. Interestingly, this is not the first time Fahadh has voiced his desire to step into the shoes of Malayalam cinema’s timeless characters. He has previously spoken about wanting to act in works like Sibi Malayil’s Sadayam and Padmarajan’s Season. Strikingly, each of these five films was immortalised by Mohanlal in career-defining performances, underscoring how deeply Fahadh’s dream projects are tied to the veteran actor’s towering legacy. So much so that he often nudges Amal Neerad to consider remaking Season, as revealed in another recent interview.
The latest conversation also touched upon an unexpected chapter in Fahadh’s career, a near miss with the Academy Award-winning Mexican filmmaker Alejandro González Iñárritu. The Kumbalangi Nights actor recalled that he was once considered for a role in one of Iñárritu’s projects, although it never materialised.
Meanwhile, Fahadh’s upcoming release OKCK is written and directed by Althaf Salim and co-stars Kalyani Priyadarshan as the female lead. Produced by Ashiq Usman, the eccentric romantic comedy also features Vinay Forrt, Revathy Pillai, Lal, Suresh Krishna and Lakshmi Gopalaswamy. The film releases on August 29 as one of the big Onam attractions, clashing at the box office with Mohanlal-Sathyan Anthikad’s Hridayapoorvam and Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra starring Kalyani and Naslen.
