Yash is back in theatres with Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups, four years after KGF: Chapter 2, and the film has opened to strong numbers. Toxic, directed by Geetu Mohandas, also stars Nayanthara, Kiara Advani, Rukmini Vasanth, Tara Sutaria and Huma Qureshi.
The film had a strong run in advance bookings even before its release. Reports suggest that its worldwide advance sales were around ₹85 crore, while more than 18 lakh tickets were sold in India. The numbers showed the interest around Yash’s return to the big screen.
The question now is how much Toxic can make on its first day.
Early trade estimates had put the Day 1 collection in the ₹80–100 crore range, with the possibility of crossing ₹100 crore if the evening and night shows continued to see good occupancy.
The early figures have added to that expectation. Reports suggest that Toxic had crossed ₹50 crore in India by around 3 pm, putting it ahead of the opening-day pace of Dhurandhar.
What makes the numbers interesting is that the film has received mixed reactions. Yash’s performance, the action and the film’s visuals have been appreciated, while the writing, editing and runtime have come in for criticism.
Yet, audiences have turned up. That says something about the curiosity around Yash’s first release after KGF: Chapter 2. Karnataka remains an important market for the film, while the Hindi belt has also contributed strongly to its opening.
The evening and night shows will decide where the film finally lands on Day 1. If the momentum holds, Toxic could cross ₹80 crore comfortably and may even have a shot at the ₹100-crore mark.
The film may have divided audiences, but at the box office, Yash’s return has clearly made an impact.
