Yash-starrer Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups is set for a worldwide theatrical release on August 26, with the makers taking legal action against the circulation of false and defamatory content ahead of its release. The producers have secured an interim injunction from a Bengaluru civil court restricting the publication, circulation or sharing of such material about the film on YouTube, social media and other platforms.
The legal step comes just hours before the film reaches theatres, as anticipation continues to build around its opening. Several theatres are scheduled to host 6 AM shows, allowing fans to catch the film early on release day. The demand for these early screenings has added to the sense of occasion around the film’s arrival, particularly in Karnataka.
Importantly, the court order does not stop critics or audiences from expressing genuine opinions about the film. Viewers can watch Toxic, review it and share their honest reactions. The restriction is directed at content that is false, malicious or defamatory, particularly material intended to create a misleading narrative around the film.
The decision also reflects a wider concern in the industry over the way online discourse can influence a film even before its first show.
