Actor-director Rishab Shetty shared a story from his trip to the US and emphasized how 'more regional is more global' ahead of the release of his upcoming film, Kantara: Chapter 1.
In an interview with Galatta Plus, Rishab shared that he travelled to Seattle for a ceremony by a Karnataka Sangham for honouring Kantara. During his visit, he met a senator who remarked, "Kantara is our story as well," which left him baffled. He added that the senator, a native American, went on to say that they too believe in nature worship and live in harmony with nature.
On how relatable Kantara: Chapter 1 will be to the rest of India, Rishab said some of us may have lost connection with our roots, but everyone everywhere in India has hope in the divine for even basic things. "In our Tulunadu, we call it Daiva; in Tamil Nadu, it is Kaaval Deivam. There are similar concepts everywhere in India. We have heard all such stories about Gods from our grandmothers."
Kantara: Chapter 1 is the prequel to the blockbuster 2022 film Kantara. The prequel traces back the history of Shiva's father and the Daiva tradition, which is entwined with the Tulunadu culture.
Written and directed by Rishab Shetty, the film also stars Rukmini Vasanth, Jayaram, Gulshan Devaiah, Rakesh Poojari, Hariprashanth MG, Deepak Rai Panaje, Shaneel Gautham, and Naveen Bondel.
Kantara: Chapter 1, produced by Vijay Kiragandur and Chaluve Gowda of Hombale Films, has the returning crew members of cinematographer Arvind Kashyap and music composer B Ajaneesh Loknath, with editor Suresh Mallaiah replacing KM Prakash and Shobith Shetty.
The film is releasing worldwide on October 2, on the occasion of Dusshera, in Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Malayalam, Bengali, and English.
