After its world premiere at this year's Cannes Film Festival, director Na Hong-jin's next film, titled Hope, is scheduled to hit theatres in India on September 25, Friday. The film marks Hong-jin's return to direction ten years after the critically acclaimed horror film The Wailing. The film stars Hwang Jung-min, Zo In-sung, Hoyeon, Alicia Vikander, Michael Fassbender and Taylor Russell.
It follows a police outpost chief and another officer in a place named Hope as they find it difficult to safeguard a village full of old people amidst wildfires and a shutdown of all communication. At the same time, Sung-ki embarks on a pursuit of a creature alongside the locals, only to get hunted instead.
Hope has a runtime of 160 minutes and explores themes of survival and the repercussions of fear. In a conversation with PTI, the filmmaker expressed his excitement for Indian audiences to watch Hope in theatres. The film is expected to release in India not just in Korean but also with dubs in English, Tamil, Hindi, and Telugu.
Hope marks the fourth film in Na Hong-jin's directorial career. Besides directing The Chaser (2008), The Yellow Sea (2010), and The Wailing (2016), he has also produced The Medium (2021). All of his films, including Hope, have positive reviews from critics, with The Wailing earning him fans across the globe.
The Hope director shared that his and his team's goal is to give the audience the grand scale and spectacle of a big-budget cinema experience, while ensuring that its world feels both urgent and unpredictable.
Presented by Plus M Entertainment, the film is produced by Forged Films alongside Plus M and Westworld. Star Entertainment Pvt Ltd is bringing it to Indian theaters. Star Entertainment's MD and CEO Jiten Hemdev expressed his excitement about introducing Na Hong-jin’s Hope to Indian viewers, noting that they are releasing the critically acclaimed film in five languages in order to make the ambitious project accessible to audiences throughout the country.
