The makers of Prahaar: The Untold Story of Ujjwal Nikam unveiled their film’s trailer at the iconic Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus in Mumbai, in the presence of Hon’ble Chief Minister of Maharashtra Shri Devendra Fadnavis and Ujjwal Nikam on Monday evening. Starring Rajkummar Rao in the lead, the film is set for theatrical release on October 16.
The trailer introduces Rajkummar Rao as Ujjwal Nikam, a middle-aged lawyer whose life and pursuit of justice inspired the film. In the aftermath of 26/11 attacks, Ujjwal serves as the public prosecutor against Ajmal Kasab, the key accused in the terrorist attack. Fighting many battles at once including satisfying public’s thirst for revenge and playing his role as the representative of Indian constitution and its fairness, Ujjwal, remains single-mindedly focused on bringing justice to the most closely watched legal battle of the nation.
Jaideep Ahlawat and Sikandar Kher play the opposing lawyers, while Wamiqa Gabbi plays Ujjwal's wife. The supporting cast includes Ashish Vidyarthi, Lalit Prabhakar, and Ritvik Sahore.
Talking about his character, Rajkummar said, “Playing Ujjwal Nikam was a responsibility I felt deeply in my heart from the beginning. I didn’t want to simply recreate a public figure; I wanted to understand the man behind the name; his conviction and his sense of duty. I hope we have been able to tell his story with the respect it deserves.”
Director Avinash Arun Dhware added, “Prahaar is not just a retelling of an event that we already know. It is an attempt to look at what happened after the headlines faded; at the people, the questions and the pursuit of justice that followed. Ujjwal Nikam’s journey gave us a way into that world.”
Ujjwal Nikam shared, “When Maddock Films approached me about telling this journey on screen, I was naturally thoughtful about it. Today, seeing this story being brought to audiences is an emotional moment for me. I hope Prahaar reminds us not only of the events, but also of the importance of courage, duty and faith in the pursuit of justice.”

Prahaar will clash with Yami Gautam-starrer family comedy Nayyi Navelli at the box office.
