Saif Ali Khan, who had a major theatrical release after 3 years with Haiwaan, reflected on his journey as an actor-producer in a recent interview. During the same, Saif spoke about his 2012 film Cocktail, calling it a ‘mistake.’
Speaking with Gulf News, Saif explained why he chose to do the role in the film, on which he also served as a producer, adding “I didn't do it for the role, I did it so the film could get made. You do things for various reasons. I knew fully well that the exciting role is the Veronica part but it's one of those things you do anyway."
The Haiwaan actor went on to add, “I did the part because we were producing it, it was an inevitable mistake, 100 per cent that was a mistake and that was a slightly regressive script choice. Otherwise, it was a breezy, fun entertainer." Among his other works, Saif Ali Khan also spoke about Humshakals, his 2014 film, sharing that he felt he was miscast for the project, in hindsight.
Cocktail, the Homi Adjania directorial which also featured Deepika Padukone and debutant Diana Penty in lead, was Saif’s third outing as a producer, after Love Aaj Kal (2009) and Agent Vinod (2012). While it received mixed reviews from critics and audience, Cocktail nonetheless emerged as a bona fide box office hit.
Meanwhile, Haiwaan, which also stars Akshay Kumar, opened to dull figures at the box office. In Haiwaan, directed by Priyadarshan, Saif Ali Khan plays a blind warrior who is compelled to take on a mysterious psychopathic killer (Akshay) who has terrorised the entire town.
Saif’s upcoming projects include Hum Hindustani.
