Nawazuddin Siddiqui, who was last seen in Main Actor Nahi Hoon, completes 27 years in the film industry this year. His debut film Sarfarosh, where he made a brief appearance as a nerve-stricken, small-time criminal, released in 1999. The Gangs of Wasseypur actor recently spoke about the challenges he faced while finding opportunities in the industry, and the self-confidence that helped him sail those difficult years.
During his appearance on Shekhar Suman’s YouTube show, Nawazuddin said, “It was that we had no other option. Nor did we keep one. It was an absolute do or die. It was do or die. It was like we will only do this, even if it takes 50 years, if we are at it. Yes, we will stay at it. There was a stubbornness and belief too, a belief that the day we get it, we will show them that day. The belief was there because you had practiced so much on acting. So there was not even a slight doubt about this thing. But with me, there is no doubt about the skill, the doubt is whether I got the opportunity or not.”
Recalling the first opportunity that he got in Sarfarosh, Nawazuddin added, “In Sarfarosh, I got a 40-second role. For those 40 seconds I had enough confidence that when my 40 seconds come, I will bring everything to a halt, people will only watch me.”
Nawazuddin Siddiqui will soon be seen in JioHotstar series Hassan, which is an official adaptation of popular TV show House. The series is yet to get an OTT premiere date. Main Actor Nahi Hoon, which released theatrically in May this year, had its OTT premiere on Prime Video on Thursday.
