The official trailer of the upcoming Aneet Padda starrer web series Hunkkaar: The Roar was unveiled at a grand event held in Mumbai on Thursday. Set to stream on JioHotstar, the series will have its premiere on September 25.
The Hunkkaar trailer lays out the premise in a rather detailed manner — Meenu (Aneet Padda), a brave young woman decides to take legal action against revered godman Baap ji (Raghubir Yadav), claiming that he sexually assaulted her. As the trailer goes on to reveal, Meenu was once a student at Baapji’s Mahasherni school.
While Meenu is helped by investigating officer Jasleen (Fatima Sana Shaikh), there remain many barriers in their path to justice, including the many middlemen, the blind devotees, the lopsided media and the legal system itself, represented by a shrewd lawyer (Ram Kapoor). What also obstructs her case is the lack of bona fide evidence of any assault. She is helped, meanwhile, by an empathetic yet pragmatic lawyer, played by Mohd Zeeshan Ayyub.
But the biggest barrier remains the Godman himself, and the blind devotion he inspires amongst his followers, who remain skeptic of Meenu's intent.
Created by Karan D Kapadia and Nitya Mehra, Hunkkaar promises to be a gritty courtroom drama. Karan and Nitya have also directed the series alongside Heeraz Marfatia.
The ensemble cast includes prominent actors like Arjun Mathur, Zoya Hussain, Charu Shankar and Rajesh Sharma. Hunkkaar also has Priyanka Chopra Jonas onboard as an executive producer.
Produced by Birla Studios and Applause Entertainment, in association with Purple Pebble Pictures, A Mangata Films Production, the series also marks Aneet’s first work which is going to come out after her being catapulted to popularity post the release of Saiyaara (2025).
