Sanya Malhotra, who was last seen in Sunny Sanskari ki Tulsi Kumari, is known for being very active on social media. During a recent public appearance, the actor spoke about the perils of social media, and its impact on current times.
Responding to a question about film personalities’ responsibility to speak up on political and social issues, Sanya said, “Everyone has the right to speak. But do people want to listen? There are times when people listen, but they also shut you up. But where are we saying these things? On social media, and social media has made things unserious.”
The actor further spoke about how nothing important stays in the news cycle for too long anymore, adding, “Even if someone has a good point, people don’t want to receive. Within a few days and hours, people have forgotten about it, because algorithm is such. I want people to talk about their minds and hearts. People move on to do other things, which is sad. Important things get stuck in algorithm. Even if you have a good point, its sad how it stays for a few days. ”
The actor also pointed out to the role of news channels in this scenario. “They too cover what’s trending. When trend goes away, that important topic will go too. We are making things unserious, whether its social media and television. Sensitivity has gone down. We are less empathetic, no matter what the platform,” she said.
Sanya Malhotra’s next big release is the Bobby Deol starrer Bandar, directed by Anurag Kashyap, which is scheduled for theatrical release on May 22. She has also Toaster in the pipeline, where she reunites with her HIT co-star Rajkummar Rao.
