The teaser of Emraan Hashmi-headliner romantic crime-drama Awarapan 2 was unveiled by the makers on Monday. The film is a sequel to the 2007 film of the same name helmed by Mohit Suri.
The teaser shows Emraan’s return as Shivam, the sad, introvert gangster with long-locks from the first part. He still seems to be still getting over the grief of losing his love Aaliyah as we see him putting a rose over her grave. The film seems to be returning to its gritty, rain-soaked setting of a neon-lit Hong Kong. Shivam is seen engaging in a street-fight with a brute. There is a glimpse of Shabana Azmi as the antagonist. Disha Patani is also seen, possibly as a love-interest, playing a cello. The teaser has ‘Toh Phir Aao’, the earworm from the first Awarapan, playing in the background, promising that the sequel will return to its roots of being a musical, grief-ridden crime-drama.
Awarapan 2 has been directed by Nitin Kakkar. It is produced by Vishesh Bhatt.
2007’s Awarapan centred around Shivam, a gangster battling the grief of losing his love Aaliyah. He goes against his employer (played by Ashutosh Rana) after the latter asks him to kill his mistress who reminds Shivam of Aaliyah.
When it came out, the film’s soundtrack became very popular with songs like ‘Toh Phir Aao’, ‘Tera Mera Rishta’ and ‘Mahiya’
Awarapan 2 is scheduled to release during the Independence Day weekend on August 14.
