After taking a spectacular opening on Friday, the Ahmed Khan directorial Welcome To The Jungle (WTTJ) maintained its strong momentum on day 2 as well. The Akshay Kumar led comedy has prominent names like Suniel Shetty, Jacqueline Fernandez, Arshad Warsi, Paresh Rawal, Shreyas Talpade, Rajpal Yadav and Jackie Shroff in the lead cast.
As per a report by trade tracker Sacnilk, WTTJ collected Rs 20 crore (nett) on Saturday. That marks a healthy jump of 31 percent from its Friday figures, setting a perfect stage for excellent performance on Sunday. Going by the trend, with no other film release this week and last week’s release Cocktail 2 showing a weak trend, Welcome To The Jungle is expected to touch the 25 crore nett mark on Sunday, finishing its first weekend tally well over 60 crore mark.
Besides Mumbai and Delhi, WTTJ is performing equally well in a centre like Ahmedabad, registering over 35 percent occupancy, whils registering above-average footfalls in smaller centres like Lucknow and Jaipur, which was necessary for a film like this. In the night shows, the film registered 54 percent occupancies.
Before Friday, the film also made decent earrings on Thursday with its paid preview shows, earning 3.25 crores (nett).
The film has largely received positive reviews from audience and mixed to positive reviews from critics. Akshay Kumar has received praises in particular, for lifting the wacky comedy with his presence. The film’s ensemble cast includes many other popular actors like Lara Dutta, Johnny Lever, Tusshar Kapoor, Aftab Shivdasani, Raveena Tandon, Disha Patani, Daler Mehndi, and many other in the ensemble.
In our review for the film, we noted, “If you consider the plot itself as a redundant plot device, Welcome To The Jungle is occasionally fun, especially when comic stalwarts like Akshay Kumar, Rajpal Yadav, Paresh Rawal and Arshad Warsi get the stage. Just like the actors in the film, the film too seems to be discovering its storyline along the way.”
