Kay Kay Menon, who is largely known for playing intense and grey-shaded characters, will be seen in a completely new avatar in the upcoming web series Adarsh Baal Vidyalaya. Produced by Posham Pa Pictures, the light-hearted show will have Kay Kay as Gyaneshwar Tripathi, a laidback headmaster of a dysfunctional school who rallies his staff to transform the institution despite everyday challenges, limited resources, and impossible odds. The series director Himank Gaur recently spoke about his conscious decision to cast the Black Friday actor for this role.
In an official statement, Himank said, “I've always loved the idea of anti-casting because it challenges both the actor and the audience. We've known Kay Kay Menon sir as one of the finest performers of our time, but we've never really seen him do comedy like this before. He's shown glimpses of it over the years, but I always felt that side of him hadn't been fully explored.”
Recalling how Kay Kay came on board for the series, Himank added, “The moment we narrated the concept of Adarsh Baal Vidyalaya to him, he immediately said, 'I want to do this,' and that gave us immense confidence. When you have an actor of his calibre, you know he'll bring honesty and conviction to any genre. Watching him embrace comedy with such sincerity has been one of the most rewarding parts of making this series."
Written by Biswapati Sarkar, Akshay Asthana, Nupur Pai, Tatsat Pandey, and Meghna Srivastava, Adarsh Baal Vidyalaya explores universal themes of hope, resilience, and community. Biswapati is also onboard as executive producer alongside Sameer Saxena. The ensemble cast includes many notable actors like Archana Puran Singh, Abhimanyu Singh, Naveen Kasturia, Prasanna Bisht, Deven Bhojani, Ajitesh Gupta, Annapurna Soni, and Prachee Shah.
Planned as a 7-episode series, Adarsh Baal Vidyalaya will premiere exclusively on Prime Video across India and over 240 countries and territories worldwide on July 24.
