L2: Empuraan’s latest character introduction poster features Abhimanyu Singh as Balraj. The Bollywood actor is best known for his acclaimed roles in Anurag Kashyap’s Gulaal (2009), Ram Gopal Varma’s Rakta Charitra (2010) and Onir’s anthology film I Am (2010), among others. He has also appeared in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Gujarati films.
L2: Empuraan marks Abhimanyu’s debut in Malayalam cinema. In a brief introduction video released by the film’s team, the actor described Balraj, a new addition to the Lucifer franchise, as “a really complex character.” Emphasising the depth of the role, he noted that Balraj is “not just one thing” but has multiple layers, making the portrayal particularly intriguing. He also highlighted the character’s evolution, stating that as the story unfolds, Balraj undergoes a significant transformation. "The shift in his character was something I really enjoyed working on," he said.
Speaking about his experience working with director Prithviraj Sukumaran, Abhimanyu expressed admiration, describing it as “amazing.” He remarked that Prithviraj’s dual role as an actor and director was a significant advantage, as “when an actor is directing actors, then everything seems to be falling in the right place.”
L2: Empuraan, scripted by Murali Gopy, marks Mohanlal's return as Khureshi-Ab'raam/Stephen Nedumbally. Along with Abhimanyu, new cast additions in the sequel include Games of Thrones actor Jerome Flynn, British actor Andrea Tivadar, French actor Eriq Ebouaney, Salaar-fame Kaarthikeyaa Dev, Kishore G Kumar, Sukant Goel, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Manikuttan, Nikhat Khan Hedge, Satyajit Sharma, Oziel Jivani, Aishwarya Ojha, Nayan Bhatt, Shubhangi Latkar and Behzaad Khan.
The film also brings back the original cast from the film’s first instalment including Tovino Thomas, Manju Warrier, Indrajith Sukumaran, Saikumar, Nandu, Fazil, Saniya Iyappan, Sshivada, Jaise Jose, Baiju Santhosh, Sachin Khedekar, Nyla Usha, Giju John, Aneesh G Menon, Sivaji Guruvayoor and Murugan Martin, among others. Produced by Aashirvad Cinemas and Lyca Productions, L2: Empuraan is set for worldwide release on March 27.
