This weeks marks the completion of 20 years of Rang De Basanti, the iconic 2006 film by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra. On the occasion, the RDB makers are organising a special screening of their film in Mumbai on Friday, January 30.
Starring Aamir Khan, R Madhavan, Siddharth Suryanarayan, Soha Ali Khan, Sharman Joshi, Kunal Kapoor, and Atul Kulkarni in key roles, Rang De Basanti revolved around a group of carefree youngsters whose lives change while working on a documentary about freedom fighters. As they step into the shoes of revolutionaries, art begins mirroring reality as they awaken to corruption and injustice, prompting them to take a powerful stance.
Besides achieving box office success, the film went on to become a nationwide phenomenon, sparking debates and conversations and resonating deeply with audiences through its powerful narrative and fearless voice. Infact, the film was also instrumental in the reopening of the Jessica Lal murder case, after people protested in Delhi at India Gate to get justice for Jessica, inspired from the candlelight vigil scene in RDB.
The Aamir Khan starrer was recipient of 4 National Awards. Additionally, RDB also remains one of those rare Indian films to have a BAFTA nomination.
The screening which is held on January 30 in Mumbai will be attended by Raykeysh Omprakash Mehra and lead cast members like Aamir, Siddharth, Soha, Kunal and Atul.
