Anurag Kashyap’s latest work Nishaanchi, the 2-part film series, had Aishvary Thackeray playing double role of twin brothers. During a recent interview, the filmmaker spoke about the reception to Nishaanchi, also expressing great pride in the VFX work done on the film, calling it better than the much-acclaimed 2025 film Sinners.
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Kashyap said, “We shot both parts of Nishaanchi with VFX in 69 days. It wasn’t like we asked the actor to change shirt and come back on sets. It was his real hair, and real beard. He lost weight and shot again. They were shot two months apart. We measured everything on sets. I am very proud of what (cinematographer) Sylvester Fonseca and Red Chillies VFX of what they have achieved in the film. I can very proud say the VFX work is is better than Sinners.”
Talking earlier about the mixed response to his film, the Nishaanchi director noted, “Most of the people who liked the film on its OTT release were 35 years old or older. Everyone who loved it saw both parts in a row.” He added, “It wasn’t supposed to be a two-part film. Because it was long, and nobody would release such a long time, the studio insisted we reveal the two-part element later. It showed in the box office result. That’s why I insisted that they drop both parts together for OTT release.”
Reportedly made on a budget of Rs 25 crore, Nishaanchi, with the theatrical release of its first part, made Rs 1.31 crore (nett) at domestic box office.
Meanwhile, Anurag Kashyap’s Kennedy will have its OTT premiere this week on ZEE5. The filmmaker also has Bobby Deol-Sanya Malhotra starrer Bandar in pipeline, which is yet to get a release date.
