The release date for much-delayed Taapsee Pannu starrer revenge drama Gandhari was announced a few days ago. Set to arrive on Netflix on September 3, the film recently found itself embroiled in controversy after the makers were alleged of plagiarising the concept and title from the work of another filmmaker. However, the Gandhari team issued a statement on Monday, dismissing allegations of such nature.
Taking to their official Instragam page, the film’s production banner Kathha Pictures posted, “ Our attention has been drawn to allegations circulating on social media and in certain publications to the effect that our forthcoming film Gandhari copies another person's concept and uses that person's title. These allegations are false, and we deny them unequivocally.”
Clarifying that their film is written and produced by Kanika Dhillon, and developed by their team, Kathha Pictures added, “We request the media, digital platforms and members of the public to treat these allegations as what they are, namely unverified and false, and to refrain from publishing, circulating or repeating them as established fact.”
Also starring Ishwak Singh in the lead cast, Gandhari is directed by Devashish Makhija, known for films like Bhonsle (2018) and Joram (2023). The film is mounted as an emotionally driven action story rooted in a mother’s fierce instinct to protect her child. Reportedly, Taapsee will be seen in a action-heavy avatar in the film.
The supporting cast includes Chhaya Kadam, Swastika Mukherjee, Mita Vashisht, and Jatin Sarna. The shoot for the film wrapped in March 2025.
Gandhari marks Kanika's fourth collaboration with Taapsee, after Manmarziyaan, Haseen Dillruba, and Phir Aayi Haseen Dillruba.
Taapsee was seen earlier this year in Anubhav Singh directed Assi, which received critical acclaim but struggled at the box office.
