After failing to impress moveigoers at the box office, Sanjay Dutt and Namashi Chakraborty starrer political-drama Aakhri Sawal has landed on OTT. The film, directed by Abhijeet Mohan Warang, has started streaming on Lionsgate Play from today (August 13).
Aakhri Sawal also features Amit Sadh, Sameera Reddy, Nitu Chandra and Tridha Choudhury.
The film revolves around professor Gopal Nadkarni (Sanjay) who is faced with a question about the validity and history of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) from his bright student Vicky (Namashi). The disagreement turns into a nationwide debate with Gopal explaining the significance of the RSS to the haughty and headstrong Vicky.
Previously speaking about the film Sanjay had reflected on the emotional depth required for the role. "Professor Gopal Nadkarni is a man whose beliefs have shaped his entire life. But, beneath that conviction lies vulnerability, compassion, and a willingness to question himself," he told Mid-Day.
Expanding on his experience of playing the academic, he said, "That balance made this character incredibly rewarding to portray for me in Aakhri Sawal. I'm delighted that viewers will soon be able to experience it on Lionsgate Play," Sanjay said.
The film opened to mostly unfavourable reviews from critics and audiences alike and grossed a total worldwide box office collection of approximately Rs 3.02 crore to Rs 3.80 crore against a reported budget of around Rs 30 to Rs 33 crore.
CE’s review of the film read: “Aakhri Sawal can’t be evaluated on acting, direction or cinematography because that’s not what the film is concerned with. It’s an audio-visual opinion piece whose arguments aren’t convincing. Its agenda is to vilify all those who dare to question. This is mere propaganda slop which can bring up cherry-picked facts if you doubt its truths and can hide behind the garb of fiction if you catch its lies.”
