Director Nitesh Tiwari's film Ramayana stars Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram, Yash as Ravana, and Sai Pallavi as Sita. Nitesh recently talked about how his film will explore Ravana.
In a recent conversation with Collider, Nitesh said, "There are many aspects to Ravana worth exploring. He was an accomplished musician and a great warrior, a scholar, a benevolent king, a great Lord Shiva devote, and much more." According to the filmmaker, these aspects make Ravana a complex character that goes beyond mere definitions of 'a black' King.
The filmmaker also underscored the importance of exploring all these qualities of Ravana due to the historical significance associated with the character. Nitesh highlighted that, despite the said qualities, Ravana's ego and vengeance played a part in his ultimate downfall.
The filmmaker's comments about Ramayana have come not long after the film's makers dropped a glimpse video introducing Ranbir's titular character. There has since been much discourse about whether the production justifies the reported budget of 4000 crore and whether Ranbir's acting does justice to the role of Lord Ram.
As reported earlier, Ramayana is designed as a two-part film, with the first part hitting theatres this Diwali and the second one being slated for a Diwali 2027 release. Both films are set for IMAX releases and boast internationally recognised technicians, including composers Hans Zimmer and AR Rahman. Notably, Zimmer and Rahman's music for the Ram glimpse is one of the appreciated aspects of it.
The makers are yet to reveal official posters or videos offering a first look at the characters played by Yash and Sai Pallavi. That said, there are pictures leaked from the production set that feature both Ranbir and Sai Pallavi clad in historical costumes.
