The first ‘Rama glimpse’ teaser of Ramayana, that was unveiled 3 days ago, received plenty of criticism from film-goers, who spoke about the substandard quality of effects and CGI images at several places in the teaser. Some also alleged the makers of using AI visuals in the teaser. Now, even as social media continues to have heated debates about the teaser’s VFX quality and its overall impact, Hrithik Roshan came out in defense of the Ranbir Kapoor starrer amidst such a strong discourse.
Taking to his Instagram page, Hrithik penned a long note, reflecting on general discourse around VFX, and why he feels it can be better. Hrithik complimented the makers of Ramayana for their ambition and intent, as he said, “The makers of films like Kalki, Bahubali, Ramayana, (also my dad for Koi Mil Gaya n Krrish, of course) are my heroes, they have the guts and vision to do what's never been done - all for the love of cinema so that we - the audience get to experience something never watched before. They risked all that money, and years of effort just so another 11 year old kid could feel what I felt. To me that's noble. the intention by itself deserves applause!”
Talking about the complexities of analysing VFX and their different styles, Hrithik reflected in a detailed explanation, “Bad VFX is if the movie promises say 'photorealism' but is unable to inhabit it fully, or the promise is of storybook style but they fail in making it beautiful enough or artistic enough or divine enough and so fails to engage. But to say that the storybook style is not looking photorealistic - isn't fair. Cause it's not meant to be, and you can't criticise the maker just cause he has chosen one style while you prefer another style. Thats not fair. So
Requesting film-goers to be more aware in their critique, the Jodhaa Akbar actor added, "Next time don't just ask, ‘Is it real?’ First ask, ‘Is it right for the story?’ 'Is it making me feel what the maker intended?' It takes thousands of our artistes working round the clock for multiple years to bring VFX heavy films to life so the least we can do is bash them with some better awareness! Debate it. But debate it with awareness"
Meanwhile, it remains to be seen whether the upcoming promotional material will eventually satisfy the film-goers, and retain the curiosity about the final output of the film. Directed by Nitesh Tiwari and produced by Namit Malhotra, Ramayana is slated to arrive in theatres in November this year.
