Vaani Kapoor and Fawad Khan’s Aabeer Gulaal will be released in India on September 26, as per a report in Bollywood Hungama. The romantic-drama had its world premiere on September 12, skipping India release.
A source confirmed the news of its release to the publication and said, “Aabeer Gulaal released globally on September 12. The team of Indian Stories Limited (UK) has now decided to release it in India on September 26. They are confident about the film and believe its simple, sweet love story can resonate with audiences here as well. Moreover, with no other major releases that week, the film will enjoy a solo run at the box office.”
The makers are yet to issue an official confirmation about the film's release in India.
Aabeer Gulaal was set to be the comeback film for Pakistani actor Fawad Khan since his last appearance in Karan Johar’s Ae Dil Hai Mushkil in 2016. It was earlier scheduled to be released in India on May 9 but got banned after the Pahalgam terrorists attack on April 22. After the attack, the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) announced a ban on Pakistani artists and reiterated that they will not allow Aabeer Gulaal to be released in India.
They had issued a warning to actors, directors and production houses to not work with Pakistani artists and said, “FWICE would like to emphasise that any member of our organisation or its affiliate associations such as the actors, directors, other technicians and Producers or the Production houses found cooperating with Pakistani personnel will be subject to disciplinary action. Further, we will take all necessary steps to ensure that Abir Gulaal is not released in India,” read their statement released in April.
Directed by Aarti S. Bagdi, the film also stars Lisa Haydon, Riddhi Dogra, Farida Jalal, Soni Razdan, Parmeet Sethi, Rahul Vora and Amrit Sandhu in pivotal roles. It is produced by Vivek B. Agrawal, Avantika Hari and Rakesh Sippy,
Its teaser, which was released earlier this year, promised a tender, old-school love story. As per reports, the film follows Gulaal (Vaani) who moves to London after running away from her arranged marriage. She meets Aabeer, a guarded restaurateur who has a troubled past.
