Govinda has often been said to be an actor who used to arrive late on sets during the 1990s. The actor addressed the rumours during his appearance on Kajol and Twinkle Khanna’s celebrity talk show, Two Much. Govinda said that he used to shoot for multiple films at the same time, making it difficult to be on time.
Govinda said, “I have been defamed for not arriving on time. Who has the strength to do five shifts and still come on time? It’s just not possible. How can someone do so much shooting? Here, people get exhausted doing even one film.”
He added that media outlets and gossip circles have exaggerated the issue by just turning minor delays into catchy headlines. The actor also said that sometimes delays would happen due to matters beyond his control like traffic, scheduling constraints or waiting for other departments.
Known for his impeccable comic timing and peculiar dance moves, Govinda rose to fame in the late 1980s and 1990s with films like Ilzam (1986), Love 86 (1986) and Ishq Mein Jeena Ishq Mein Marna (1994). The actor’s collaboration with David Dhawan led to iconic films like Raja Babu (1994), Coolie No. 1 (1995), Hero No. 1 (1997) and Partner (2007), among others.
In the 2010s, he was seen in Kill Dil (2014) and Happy Ending (2014). He last appeared in a double role in the comedy-drama, Rangeela Raja in 2019.
