Actor Govinda and his wife Sunita Ahuja’s divorce rumors resurfaced recently making Govinda’s lawyer to issue a clarification saying that, ‘there is no case’.
A recent report in Hauterrfly claimed that Sunita filed for a divorce with the actor on December 5, 2024 under the section 13 (1) (i), (ia), (ib) of the Hindu Marriage Act, 1955, citing adultery, cruelty and desertion as grounds. Govinda was summoned by the court but he didn’t appear until a notice was issued in May this year.
Reacting to the rumors, Govinda’s lawyer, Lalit Bindra told NDTV, “There is no case, everything is being settled, people are just bringing up old matters. This Ganesh Chaturthi, you will see everyone together, you should come home.”
After the rumors surfaced online last evening, Govinda was seen at Mumbai airport as he posed for pictures.
Similar reports of divorce came up in February when Govinda’s team said that Sunita had filed a divorce case six months ago but the couple had then come back together.
Govinda’s manager, Shashi spoke about it to HTCity and said, “Every couple sees ups and downs in their relationship. These are all old news that people are resurfacing for their own benefit. Govinda can never be violent or misbehave then where is the question of being cruel? I have worked closely with him and he is nothing like it. People are trying to tarnish his image. All this news that has surfaced is old, and both Sunita and Govinda are working on their differences.”
The divorce rumors were sparked when Sunita made statements that they live separately while also implying that the actor had been unfaithful to her. In a video which went viral in March this year, Sunita said, "We live separately because when Govinda joined politics, my daughter was growing up, and party workers used to visit our home. Since we would wear shorts and move around freely at home, we decided to get an office nearby. If anyone dares to separate Govinda and myself, let them come forward."
The two got married in 1987 and have two children, Tina Ahuja and Yashvardhan Ahuja.
