Ayushmann Khurrana opened up about his upcoming horror-comedy film, Thamma and said that it has no similarities with the recently released Malayalam blockbuster, Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra. Ayushmann called Thamma to be more massy than Lokah.

In an interview with Galatta Plus, Ayushmann spoke about the two films and said, “We are high on comedy. Though I enjoyed Lokah, but I also feel that…I was shooting in Allahabad at that time, and it was not released there. So, ours is a more massy film because it penetrates down to the Hindi-speaking markets also. Lokah could be a good induction for certain multiplex audiences towards this thing, but we have a different genesis, different situations, and it’s a different story. But there’s hardly any similarities.”

Rashmika Mandanna, who plays the female lead in Thamma, also shared her thoughts and said, “Having DQ (Dulquer Salmaan) and Thomas (Tovino), and Kalyani just doing their thing, it was a different world altogether. Knowing what we have in store and knowing where we are coming from, I can promise you that it’s going to be a different experience. You can’t put both the films together. I understand where it’s coming from, but tomorrow when you walk out of Thamma, it’s going to be a new conversation.”

The similarities between both the films stem from both being about vampires inspired from local mythology. Lokah was released in theatres on August 28 and turned out to be highest grossing Malayalam film, earning more than Rs 300 crore worldwide.

Meanwhile, Thamma is the next part in Maddock Horror Comedy Universe and has been helmed by Munjya (2024) director Aditya Sarpotdar. It also stars Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Paresh Rawal and Sathyaraj in pivotal roles and is set to be released in theatres on October 21.
