Shefali Shah has joined the cast of Rishab Shetty starrer The Pride of Bharat: Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. The film will be directed by Sandeep Singh.

As per sources, Shefali will be playing the role of Rajmata Jijabai, mother of Shivaji.

Sandeep Singh, known for producing films like Mary Kom (2014) and Jhund (2022), is making his theatrical directorial debut with this venture. Singh has emphasised his intent to create a visually stunning narrative that does justice to the legendary Maratha king’s story.

The project was announced by the makers earlier this year by both Rishab and director Sandeep Singh, who shared the first look along with the following statement:

“Our honour and privilege, presenting the epic saga of India’s greatest warrior king – The Pride of Bharat: Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. This isn’t just a film – it’s a battle cry to honor a warrior who fought against all odds, challenged the might of the Mighty Mughal empire, and forged a legacy that can never be forgotten.”

Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, the founder of the Maratha Empire in the 17th century, remains one of India’s most revered historical figures. His life has inspired over 60 adaptations in film and television, beginning with the silent film Sinhagad in 1923. The Pride of Bharat aims to add a fresh perspective to this rich tradition and will release in multiple languages, including Hindi, English, Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, and Marathi, appealing to audiences across the globe. The film is slated to release on January 21, 2027.
