Tere Ishk Mein opens in cinemas today on the back of an impressive 24 hours of advance booking momentum. The Dhanush–Kriti Sanon starrer, which reunites Dhanush with filmmaker Aanand L Rai after a decade, closed its Thursday pre-sales with over 1.3 lakh tickets sold and just under Rs 3 crore in gross collections for Day 1.
Trade sources indicate that the film’s late-night surge pushed it ahead of the ticket counts recorded for Sitaare Zameen Par and Jolly LLB 3, making it one of the strongest openers for a romantic drama this year. With the film trending consistently on BookMyShow through Thursday evening, exhibitors are expecting walk-ins and on-the-day sales to boost it toward a double-digit opening — a rare feat for the genre in 2024.
The emotional intensity of the film has also become a talking point ahead of release. Kriti Sanon, who plays Mukti, said she was taken in by the character’s purity and absolute faith in humanity. She described Mukti as someone who “truly believes people can change”, adding that the character’s optimism was what she personally connected with most.
Dhanush, who steps back into Hindi cinema after years, called Shankar a character with a warmth that audiences would immediately respond to, while also hinting at the internal struggles that make him compelling. These intricacies, he said, were what drew him to the script.
Backed by Bhushan Kumar, directed by Aanand L Rai, and written by Himanshu Sharma and Neeraj Yadav, the film is set in the same universe as Raanjhanaa. With AR Rahman’s music ruling streaming charts, the team enters release day with solid momentum and the possibility of delivering Dhanush’s biggest Hindi opening yet.
Tere Ishk Mein releases today, November 28, in Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu.
