The teaser of Raat Akeli Hai: The Bansal Murders, a sequel to the 2020 whodunnit Raat Akeli Hai, was unveiled by the makers on Thursday. Directed by Honey Trehan and written by Smita Singh, the film will see Nawazuddin Siddiqui reprise his role as the no-nonsense cop Jatil Yadav. Radhika Apte also returns to the franchise. There are new entrants too like Chitrangda Singh, Deepti Naval, Rajat Kapoor, Revathy, Ila Arun, Sanjay Kapoor, and Akhilendra Mishra.
Inspector Jatil Yadav gets on a new case. Members of the influential Bansal family of Kanpur have been brutally murdered at their mansion. Jatil’s boss DGP Verma (Kapoor) wants him to get the bottom of the matter quickly. There is only one survivor Meera Bansal (Chitrangda) who might have some answers. The Bansals are also somehow connected with a mysterious cult headed by Gurumaa (Naval). As Jatil strives to crack the case he is drawn into a web of power, deception, blind faith, and long-buried secrets.
Director Honey Trehan, reflecting on the sequel, said, “With Raat Akeli Hai: The Bansal Murders, we’ve gone deeper into the world we built with the first film. This film explores the price of truth and the corruption of conscience, with the stakes higher than ever as Jatil now has to unravel a mass murder.”
Nawazuddin, marking a return in one of his most celebrated roles shared, “Returning as Jatil Yadav feels like revisiting a part of myself that never left. This film takes him to places he’s never been, emotionally and morally.”
Raat Akeli Hai: The Bansal Murders will premiere at the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) Goa today (November 27). It will drop on Netflix on December 12.
