Yami Gautam Dhar opened up recently about not winning any major awards in her career and said that it doesn’t really bother her as she has stopped seeking validation from anyone. Yami said that she has become detached with certain things and doesn’t believe that she is a good actress only when she gets an award.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter India, Yami said, “As much as I have understood the Bhagwat Geeta, what Lord Krishna says to Arjun is true. Not that I have become that detached like the most perfect human, but if you have the ability to detach from the success and the fear of losing or seeking validation through somebody else’s perspective, you are fine.”
She added, “I have stopped seeking any kind of validation from anyone. Agar who award milta hai to main bahut achi actress hoon, otherwise shayad nahi hoon. Aisa nahi hai (It’s not that I am only a good actress if I get that award, and otherwise I am not).”
For her, it is the love from audience which matters the most. “The fact that my audience loves me, certain directors and producers are willing to take a punt on me, usse bada award kya hai jab audience aapko utha deti hai. Baaki sab aana jaana hai. Audience ko hi pata hai (there’s no bigger award than your audience lifting you up. Everything else is transient. The audience knows). If it makes somebody happy, great!”
The actor was nominated this year for Filmfare Award in the Best Actor (Female) category for her performance in the film, Article 370. However, she lost the award to Alia Bhatt for Jigra.
Yami is gearing up for the release of her courtroom-drama, Haq, which also stars Emraan Hashmi and is set to be released in theatres on November 7.
