It’s a chicken and egg situation. After the recent title reveal of Shah Rukh Khan’s upcoming actioner King, tweets started floating, stating that SRK has copied the blue denim shirt with a dark beige jacket look, seen in the reveal, from Brad Pitt in F1 (2025). Shah Rukh fans, however, wouldn’t take it lying down. To counter the narrative, they then started tweeting images of SRK in the same look from his 2017 Imtiaz Ali romance Jab Harry Met Sejal, claiming that it’s not their beloved star but Brad Pitt who has copied the look. King director Siddharth Anand didn’t verbally comment on the whole fiasco but he reacted to a comment by an X user, hinting at what his viewpoint might be on the issue.
An X user wrote on Monday, “Funny logic by haters these days. If Bollywood movie has:- Fighter Jet – Copy of Top Gun; Ship – Copy of Titanic; Same dress code – Copy of F1; Orange Dress – Anti-Hindu (crying emoji). Their IQ level is like – buffering since 1947.” Siddharth replied to the tweet with a couple of laughing with tears emojis.
The Pathaan (2023) director has also been taking subtle digs through his X account. A couple of days ago, on Shah Rukh’s 60th birthday, he shared a picture with the superstar and wrote in the caption, “When stars go beyond being ‘just a superstar’ they are called (crown emoji). Happy Birthday INDIA’s KING.” Social media users took that as a dig on filmmaker Sandeep Reddy Vanga introducing Prabhas as “India’s biggest superstar” while dropping a promo of their upcoming action thriller Spirit on the latter’s birthday on October 25.
Comparisons of Siddharth films with Hollywood blockbusters is nothing new. Last year, many called his aerial action entertainer Fighter, starring Hrithik Roshan and Deepika Padukone, as a rip-off of Tom Cruise-starrer Hollywood franchise Top Gun. Siddharth also went on to even defend the film’s underwhelming box office performance with a foot in the mouth claim that not too many Indians were well-versed with fighter planes.
