The first announcement video of Ajay Devgn’s upcoming comedy entertainer Son of Sardaar 2 was unveiled by the makers on Thursday. Directed by Vijay Kumar Arora, the film also stars Mrunal Thakur, Sanjay Dutt, Sahil Mehta, Kubbra Sait, Sanjay Mishra and Ravi Kishan in pivotal roles.
The video introduces all the main characters from the film, opening with a silhouette of Ajay standing in front of the sun. He plays Jassi in the film and Mrunal plays his love interest, Rabia. Ravi seems to play a gangster as he is seen firing bullet from a shotgun. The video is filled with some funny moments where Jassi is dousing a fire by throwing water in it or when he is pointing a rifle at others. A text comes on screen: He survived Punjab, can he survive Scotland? At the end of the video, Jassi is seen wearing Army clothes and standing between two tanks, a callback to Ajay’s trademark style from his debut film, Phool Aur Kaante (1991), where he stood between two bikes and later in Son of Sardaar (2012) where he was riding two horses.
While the plot details of the sequel are still under wraps, the 2012 prequel was a remake of S.S. Rajamouli’s Telugu film Maryada Ramanna (2010) and told the story of Jaswinder, played by Ajay, who falls in love with Sukhmit, played by Sonakshi Sinha, which leads to an angry exchange between him and her family. It was directed by Ashwini Dhir and also starred Sanjay Dutt.
Presented by Jio Studios and Devgn Films, Son of Sardaar 2 is produced by Ajay Devgn, Jyoti Deshpande, N R Pachisia and Pravin Talreja and co-produced by Kumar Mangat Pathak. It is set to be released in theatres on July 25.
